چکیده

Tumor blood flow is an important determinant of the efficacy of presently available antineoplastic treatment modalities. Using l13Sn-labeled microspheres, 25 u.m in diameter, we measured blood flow to primary tumors and regional lymph node métas tases in conscious SMT-2A mammary adenocarcinoma-bearing syngeneic rats following a single i.v. bolus injection of the calcium entry blocker, flunarizine. Tumor blood flow increased in a biphasic dose-dependent fashion; at a dose of 1 mg/kg, primary tumor blood flow increased approximately 50% (p < 0.001) without a significant change in heart rate or blood pressure. The increase in flow was distributed to both the peripheral viable and central necrotic regions of the tumor and was still detectable 45 min following administration of the drug. A similar increase in blood flow was demonstrated for lymph node métastases(p < 0.001).

Relationship between Multiple Forms of Plasminogen Activator in Human Breast Tumors and Plasma and the Presence of Métastasesin Lymph Nodes1

Plasminogen activators (PAs), a family of proteases active in blood coagulation, may play an important role in cancer. Indeed, blood coagulation disorders, such as altered fibrinogen and fibrin metabolism and increased incidence of vascular thrombosis, are common in patients with advanced malignant disease. Different types of human tumors are known to contain high levels of PA. The isoelectric ...

Cushing’s syndrome associated with typical, peripheral pulmonary carcinoid tumor and N2 lymph node metastasis: case report

Background: The bronchopulmonary carcinoid tumor accounts for 1-2% of all adult malignancies of the lung and 20-30% of all carcinoid tumors. Cushing’s syndrome is the result of chronic exposure to increased concentration of exogenous or endo-genus cortisol hormone, and it is generally associated with central obesity, metabolic syndrome, and hypertension. Treatment is based on decreasing cortiso...

Effect of verapamil on malignant tissue blood flow in SMT-2A tumor-bearing rats.

We investigated the influence of the calcium antagonist verapamil on malignant and normal tissue blood flow using 25-micrometer 113Sn-labeled microspheres. Isogeneic Wistar-Furth rats were inoculated with a metastasizing mammary gland adenocarcinoma (SMT-2A) in the hindlimb musculature and mammary gland. Verapamil was administered as an i.v. bolus via an external jugular vein catheter followed ...

Transpulmonary passage of tumor cell emboli.

The following report deals with an attempt to determine whether or not tumor cell emboli pass through the lung circulation. Métastasesin many organs, such as adrenals and kidneys, are general ly derived from emboli carried in arteries. How do these emboli get into the arteries from the primary neoplasm? Do they first lodge in the lungs, form ing secondary tumors which later give off emboli int...
